Keyword Research

 What is a good number of searches for a keyword? For a blog post approx 1000 searches per month is a good starting point.

Keywords how many keywords should i use in my website. You should take portfolio approach and try rank for multiple long tail keywords.

Why go for long tail keywords if there is less search volume? When you start out, you need to go after less competitive keywords. Build those backlinks and get traffic, then when you start ranking those pages, start going for the larger traffic/competition keywords.

I can't access AdWords? Just set up an ad and then can it straight away (you wont be charged) so you can access the Keyword Planner tool. Use the keyword everywhere tool below instead.

Google Keyword Planner. Figures are stated in a range "100-1k" as a result is quite vague and not as useful. Yes, Google have started restricting data for non advertisers, use the keyword everywhere tool as an alternative.

Does the Google Keyword Planner categorize keywords into Head, Body and LongTail? No google doesn't categorise this way. As a general rule: Head = one word keyword. Body= two word keyword phrases. Tail = three or more keyword phrases. The competition metric in adwords relates to how many people are bidding on the keyword not how hard it is to rank. However, there will be some correlation i.e. high competition = harder to rank.

 Is there a tool with more languages support than keyword everywhere tool. Google Keyword Planner or Ubersuggest.

 How to add keywords to a blog post? You should add keywords in your blogs url, title, phrases and in images Alt-tags. For best results, use your keywords within the first 200 characters of your blog post, several times throughout your post, and near the end of the post.

What should I do so I do not lose my current site ranking when I optimise my site? Don't  make changes to pages you are ranking for.

I only have a free wordpress site, can I use the Yoast SEO plugin? No, you need hosting to install plugins.

On page optimisation for a non wordpress site? As shown in lecture most website builders have designated fields to fill out. For html sites search only how to edit code and insert title, descripton, image tags etc.

Does WordPress websites need a sitemap to submit to google? Yes, it can help. The Yoast SEO Wordpress plugin will help you create one easily. You can then submit via Google Search Console (Webmaster tool).

How long does it take for changes to Title page and meta description to appear in Google? Your changes will only reflect in google after 2-3 days.

What is link building and why we need to create backlinks? Link building is the process of acquiring hyperlinks from other websites to your own. The search engines do not just look at the content of the page; they also look at the number of links pointing to that page from external websites and the quality of those external websites. The more high-quality websites that link to you, the more likely you are to rank well in search results.
